The CentOS Project has announced few changes shifting its focus to CentOS Stream.
These changes are announced by CentOS as follow:-
- Quicken the support lifetime for CentOS 8, no further updates after 31st of December 2021.
- CentOS 8 will become an upstream (also known as development branch) of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (aka RHEL). Therefore, CentOS 8 will no longer suitable for production environments.
However, the CentOS 7 lifecycle will continue to provide support until the scheduled period for supporting patches and security updates ends in
June 2024.
